The Tarawera Ultramarathon has firmly established itself as the most iconic race in the Kiwi race calendar and as part of the Ultra-Trail World Tour has put New Zealand on the map as a destination for elite runners and trail fans globally.

“Run somewhere extraordinary” race organiser Paul Charteris says and he’s not wrong – 100km of amazing lakes, bush and volcanoes means Tarawera is a favourite race of many a Kiwi athlete. Each year brings drama and excitement in heavy doses and 2016 was no different with some gnarly weather adding to the challenges the athletes face.

The Reel Wild crew are delighted to once again show the Tarawera Ultra film for this year and relive some of the pain and glory of one of the most epic races anywhere.
